YOUR VOICE AS INSTRUMENT

You sing with the same 'device' that you use to speak. Your vocal cords (actually two small muscles in your larynx) are like gates that can close off your windpipe. When you inhale they are open but when you exhale you can sing. The vocal cords vibrate against each other and the vibration creates sound. Although the vocal cords provide the sound, you need your whole body to sing. You can influence the color of the sound with this, but you also need your body to ensure that you can sing 'freely' and that there is no muscle tension in places where it should not be there.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO  LEARN?

For starters, it's important that you gain confidence and feel safe enough to make your voice heard. When that's there we can work on how it sounds.
In the lessons we start from the songs or genre that you would like to sing. Everything is possible, even two originally different styles mixed up. Have a look at this:

Depending on your age, we work on: breath and pronunciation, energy and attitude, technique, text interpretation, rhythm, dynamics, presentation and focus. In the lesson there is collaboration with the teacher who tries to make you aware of how singing feels and how it sounds (because those are two different things).
'Beautiful' is taste, so you decide how you want to sound and the teacher monitors whether it is healthy. You will be accompanied on the piano so that you also train your hearing and playing together, but sometimes singers don't need other instruments. Look:

WHEN CAN YOU START SINGING?

You can start at Art4U from about 8 years old, but you can start at any age because luckily you are never too old for singing!
