WHAT IS A TRUMPET/CORNET/BUGEL?

All three are made of copper and therefore belong to the group of brass instruments. They consist of a metal tube with a mouthpiece, 3 valves and a bell. Other brass instruments include trombone, horn, and tuba.

The sound of the trumpet is clear and radiant, the cornet sounds more round and soft and the flugelhorn has a thick warm tone. You get sound from these instruments by putting your lips together and making them vibrate. By using the valves you can shorten (higher tones) or lengthen (lower tones) the length of the tube.

Nowadays there are also all kinds of handy carrying bags to transport your instrument, even on a bicycle!

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO LEARN?

Your textbook contains many well-known songs and tunes. It even comes with a CD so you can play along with a real band! You can play various genres with these instruments such as classical, pop, rock and jazz to even contemporary songs. The cornet can be found in the brass band and the flugelhorn can be found in the fanfare orchestra.
